Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my Proteus device work with different radar manufacturers?

Yes, we currently work with Garmin and Simrad.  Raymarine and Furuno are in production.

Will Proteus work without radar?

Yes, Proteus will work without radar, but you will lose a certain primary functionality, identifying targets on the water.

Will Proteus work on multiple displays?

Proteus' touch screen functionality will only work on the display that the USB and HDMI cable from Proteus is plugged into.  However, you will be able to see Proteus on displays that are plugged into the network.

Will Proteus Identify unknown objects in the water, such as crab traps, wood, dock pilings, etc?

That depends on the capability of your radar. Proteus picks up what your radar picks up.  If your object in the water shows up on your radar, then Proteus will display it as an “Unknown Object” or a channel marker/buoy.  If items are too small to be picked up on radar, then Proteus will not pick up the object.

Can I install Proteus myself?

Yes, you can install Proteus yourself. However, we recommend you have it done professionally, and you may void certain warranties if completed DIY.
